Custom build or WordPress is not a technical preference, it is a question of who maintains the site in two years. A team that publishes weekly needs a CMS they can use without us. A site that changes twice a year does not.
Where projects go wrong
Scope agreed in a conversation rather than on paper. Pages discovered halfway through build. Content arriving after the design is signed off. Every one of those is avoidable at the wireframe stage.
